Polymer-modified bitumens

By combining our experience in the development of polymers and in the asphalt bitumens sector, at Repsol we have designed our range of modified bitumens. Their application makes it possible to obtain higher-performing bituminous mixtures to adapt roads to increased traffic and to the heavier demands therefrom. The result is roads with greater durability and lower maintenance costs.

Bitumens for roads with higher demands

At Repsol we have a cross-linking system of our own development which we use to produce our polymer-modified bitumens. This results in a product with a microscopically homogeneous structure and guarantees storage stability.

Designed to adapt roads to the increased demands of today's traffic, polymer modified bitumens provide major advantages in the performance of bituminous mixes, including:

  • Greater cohesion, which makes it possible to obtain structures with more critical granulometries
  • Greater resistance to fatigue, reducing the risk of cracking
  • Greater service durability, since greater resistance to aging is achieved in adverse conditions
  • Greater adhesiveness to aggregates
  • Increased service temperature interval
  • Greater resistance to plastic deformation (ruts)

Due to their configuration and rheological performance, the same usage recommendations cannot be used in polymer-modified bitumens as in conventional bitumens. Therefore, Repsol has a Technical Assistance and Development Department oriented towards assessing our customers on the best conditions of use of this product.

Repsol participates in the 1st National Conference on Asphalt Pavings organized by the ILIEV

"Perpetual Pavements" was the paper delivered by Repsol's Director of Asphalts, Alberto Bardesi, during his participation in the 1st Conference on Asphalt Pavings organized by the Latin American Institute for Road Research and Studies. The Conference focused on the latest developments and experiences in asphalts through the keynote speeches given by highly qualified and prestigious technicians in the sector, both Latin American and Spanish representatives.
