We make every effort to ensure that our activities or decisions do not have a negative impact on people's human rights. In this regard, we are guided by our
Human Rights and Community Relations Policy IPDFI 73 KB.

Our performance in human rights

We are convinced that companies have a key role to play as agents of change in respecting human rights. Therefore, we present our report that shows our path over the few years of  guaranteeing the respect of human rights in our operations, with our employees and communities, and throughout our value chain.

Human Rights Due Diligence

What is it?

It is a mechanism which allows us to evaluate the effects of our activity on human rights.

What does it involve?

The rights of employees, communities, customers, rightholders, and other stakeholders.

When do we implement it?

From the beginning to the end of our projects, throughout the whole value chain, including our suppliers and partners.

    What is the due diligence process?

  • Risk and impact assessment

    In all our activities, we analyze in detail the social, economic, and cultural context. We identify and assess our potential impacts and proceed with the commitment to maximize positive consequences and minimize or mitigate negative ones.

  • Prevention and mitigation measures

    We take the appropriate actions to prevent and mitigate any potential impacts of our operations, products or services and integrate these measures into our internal processes.

  • Communication to stakeholders

    We share the measures to take and communicate them externally among our stakeholders.

  • Grievance mechanisms

    Anyone potentially affected by our operations can send us any concerns, request information or file a complaint, which we address swiftly and promptly to prevent them from escalating into a larger problem.

  • Remediation

    In the event of negative impacts on human rights materialize, we strive to repair the damage.

  • Monitoring effectiveness

    Throughout the due diligence process, we will monitor the effectiveness of the actions taken, which allows us to improve.

At the forefront of human rights management

We ranked 10th worldwide and 3rd in the oil & gas sector in the prestigious Corporate Human Rights Benchmark (CHRB), which evaluated 199 companies from different sectors. Our ambition is to keep improving year after year to stay in the first quartile.

La Pampilla Social Action Plan

On January 15, 2022, an uncontrolled movement of the Mare Doricum tanker during unloading caused an oil spill on the coasts of 5 districts north of La Pampilla Refinery. As part of its immediate response to the accident, Repsol designed and is implementing a Social Management Plan to help affected communities.

Human rights due diligence in renewable energy projects: Jiloca cluster

As we fulfil our commitment to act with due diligence in human rights wherever we operate, we go a step further and aim to become a key agent within the communities in which we are located, while assuming the importance of anticipating possible social impacts and contributing to local development.
