Repaving the Estoril racetrack with Repsol’s high-performance bitumen

• The Estoril racetrack in Portugal has just been repaved, and our Company was chosen to provide the products to do it. Repsol’s special bituminous binders, developed with cutting-edge technology, have been applied to the track surface.

The Estoril racetrack is the jewel of the town of Estoril, just a short distance from Lisbon. Tests races for Formula 1 and the Motorcycling World Championship have taken place here, and as of a few days ago the track was completely repaved with modified high-performance binders.

A thousand tons of Repsol products

Over 18 years since the last time major renovations were made to the track surface, our Company has been chosen to provide the products used in repaving the track.

To accomplish this, it was vital to keep in mind the extremely demanding conditions required by these kinds of pavements and replace both the wearing course and the regulating layer, both developed with polymer-modified bitumens.

A total of 1,000 tons of product were applied, including polymer-modified bitumen and modified bituminous emulsions. The result: a road surface up to the test of enduring even the harshest tests in motor sport.
