Fuel-resistant bitumen

Conventional pavings have very low resistance to the dissolution of asphalt bitumen in crude oil, giving rise to the disintegration of the agglomerate. Hydrocarbon leakoff can cause loss of cohesion in the asphaltic mixture and deteriorate it.

Properties and applications

BAC 35/50 is a special binder created for the development of mixtures applied in zones where fuel and lubricant leakoff is common. In general, the zones most associated with this type of activity are fuel loading/unloading areas in industrial zones, airports, service stations, and vehicle parking areas.

This binder is therefore applied in zones where there is frequent contact with hydrocarbons, such as wearing courses, airport zones, bus lanes, fleet parking zones or prolonged parking zones, highway toll areas, and service stations and garages.

Fuel-resistant bitumen has the following advantages over conventional binders:

  • Greater resistance to hydrocarbons than conventional binders
  • Less susceptibility to temperature and aging
  • High resistance to high service temperatures
  • Easy handling and installation
